I’ve mentioned the Haiti bundle from DriveThruRPG/OneBookShelf before. It was a fantastic effort put forth by everyone involved and it raised a lot of money for DWB. Now, OneBookShelf is doing it again.
More than 12 million people were affected by the recent floods in Pakistan. Emergency workers are stretched thin and money is tight, so the guys at OBS have decided to put together another bundle with the money going straight to Doctors Without Borders. I’m still working my way through the Haiti bundle, which was packed with quality offerings from several publishers, so when DTRPG offers something like this it’s definitely worth checking out. More than that, it’s for a good cause. Last year it was a big deal, with these publishers selflessly throwing offerings into the package in the hopes that they could entice people into picking up the package. This one is no less of a big deal.
Many publishers have chipped in to make this a possibility, and this bundle is packed with more than $700 of stuff. So go and check out the bundle, donate your $25 and please send a message of thanks to any of the publishers you might know, through whatever means you have available, for making this happen. The bundle will be only be available until 10:00 AM EST, Monday, October 25th. If comics are more your style they are also offering a $10 bundle which will net you $100 in comics (digital format).
Now, about the promise. My promise to myself was that I wouldn’t buy any RPG stuff for a year and, because of this bundle, I’m going to break it*. I donate to DWB every chance I get and I’m not going to let this one slip by me. So, I’m going to purchase two of these RPG bundles and give them away to my readers. All you have to do is send an email to herophase (at) gmail.com with the email address you’d like the package purchased for and post a comment to this post with a promise to pay it forward sometime in the future. Doesn’t have to be now, doesn’t have to be this package, doesn’t have to be anything specific, just make a promise to give something to someone else without receiving anything in return. The reason I want a comment instead of including it with the email is to have a public record for all to see.
I’ll pick the winners at random on Friday, Oct 22nd.
*By “break it” I mean make an exception for this offering. I’m going to hold to it for myself and I won’t be buying one of these bundles for me. I know I can make a donation direct to DWB but I’d rather see someone who may not have the extra money to pick this bundle up get a chance at it.
Update
By request, I’m extending the deadline to Saturday, Oct 23rd.
Update
Today I received the press release for this bundle and wanted to share it with you, word for word what was sent to me, so you can understand why OneBookShelf does what it does. Share it with your friends, through your social networking sites, on blogs of your own or whatever else you have to get the word out.

DriveThruRPG Launches Charity Bundle for Pakistan Flood Relief
(Atlanta, GA) – DriveThruRPG, an Internet-based business that specializes in the marketing and distribution of RPGs and roleplaying accessories for traditional dice-and-paper gaming, has posted a bundle of products provided by participating publishers for the purpose of generating charity revenue for the relief of Pakastan’s flood victims.
As was done earlier this year for the people of Haiti, DriveThruRPG is calling upon the gaming community to once again make donations towards a fund that will ultimately be wired to Doctors Without Borders. The bundle is priced at $25.00 and contains dozens of donated products valued at over $700.00. The entire amount received from those making donations will go to Pakistan relief.
“Though it has long since moved out of the primary news cycle, the plight of the Pakistani people remains a terrible story,” said Sean Patrick Fannon, Marketing and Communications Manager for DriveThruRPG. “Millions remain homeless, and many thousands of lives are at risk due to injuries, illness, and starvation. We proved once before that we can provide some help to those in need, and we are determined to do so again.”
DriveThruRPG remains committed to its relationship with Doctors Without Borders; thanks to their non-partisan, non-philosophical agenda and their dedication to provide medical assistance and aid all over the world, they remain the perfect choice to channel help where it is needed.
“Discovering the power to make a difference, as we did with our Haiti efforts, was inspirational,” said Steve Wieck, Co-owner of DriveThruRPG. “Once again we are driven to leverage our tools and our marketplace to reach out to those who suffer, and we are grateful that we have the ability to do so.”
The Pakistan Flood Relief RPG Bundle, provided at a donation price of $25, will remain available until Monday, October 25th, at www.drivethrurpg.com. As well, DriveThruComics (www.drivethrucomics.com) has a similar bundle for $10, containing over $100 in comics titles.

I’ll make that promise. The only reason I’m not snagging this myself, like I did with the Haiti package and the Humble Indy Bundle for Child’s Play is that I’m just totally tapped out right now for spending money.
Pingback: Tweets that mention I’m going to break my promise… | One Year -- Topsy.com
promise is in, especially since the only money I have for hte bundle is the money I’ve put aside for toys for tots
My promise is in. If a group was putting a charity rpg book together I’d contribute to it too, as I did for 2 for the Tsunami and one for Katrina victims.
Make sure you send me an email with the address you’d like the bundle sent to.
I missed out on the Haiti bundle by a matter of hours and instead donated £10 via the local Salvation Army, this is my promise to support the next donation bundle.
sign me up for this promise.
What an amazing person you are!
G*M*S Magazine will organise from now on, at least two fund raising Play in Public days every year for as long as we’re alive!
Already purchased my copy — good on you for doing this.
Thanks for this. You and these companies are awesome!
Thank you for all of your support, and the entirely stand-up way you handle yourself. We are very proud to work in partnership with you.
Sincerely,
Sean Patrick Fannon
I’ll make that promise. It’s good to see there are still some people who try to do good in the world.
I will gladly make that promise. The only reason I haven’t bought a bundle already is that the garage seemed to be able to tell almost exactly what was in the bank account before replacing the power steering pump
And why do I have such problems commenting to blogs? Let’s see if this second try goes through (thanks for the heads-up, J
I’ll make that promise. I will contribute to a worthy charity.
I’ll make that promise. I’d have snatched it and the comics one up in a second if my bank account wasn’t empty.
Awe, I want so much win one of these bundles, I’m not sure how I’ll ‘pay it forward’, I’ve got a lot of friends with a philanthropic bend, So consider this post a IOU for me to help out for any charitable/humanitarian thing you need me to in the future
